Date Range1886-1920DescriptionThe Karori Borough Council was set up under the Municipal Corporations Act 1886, with six Councillors and a Mayor elected by borough ratepayers. Karori had previously been served by the Karori-Makara Road Board. When the borough was set up it included Creswick (Northland), Kelburn and part of Tinakori Road. Creswick amalgamated with Wellington City in 1908, changing its name to Northland. Karori amalgamated with Wellington City in 1920. Significant officers included: Town Clerk 1891- 1894 R Caldwell Town Clerk May Sept 1894-1920 W F England Borough Engineer May 1906- Nov 1907 J E Thomson - previously at WCC Tramways Power Station Borough Engineer Jan 1908-Mar 1920 G A Brigham On amalgamation, WCC took over and continued to use some Karori Borough Council record, including building permits records.
