There are no extant indexes or registers of building permits issued by these authorities. This series comprises permits created by the Johnsonville Town Board. In 1908 the Johnsonville Town Board became independent from Hutt County. Permit holdings date from 1908, when a Building Bylaw of the Johnsonville Town Board was passed requiring plans to be submitted before building work could be carried out. The Johnsonville Town Board records cease in 1953 when the Board, along with the Newlands and Paparangi area, which were then part of Makara County, amalgamated with Wellington.
