Archives Identifier00054Date Range1953-1957DescriptionThis series consists of permits issued to erect signs. The permit documentation includes an application form, specifications and plans of the sign. Between July 1953 and June 1957, permits were issued for signs separately from the building permit process. Receipt numbers were used as the permit numbers. One number was used for multiple applications if the application was made by the same company on the same day. Applications were made on building permit application forms until 25 March 1954, when an application form for signs was introduced (see permit 16574a). The applications for each month (or, later, three months) were placed together in an envelope with the receipt number, location of work, owner, and applicant written on the outside. The dates of this permit series coincides with the lifting of the lighting restrictions in 1953 (Report, 9 June 1953, Town Clerk's file 6/336 Pt 2). The lighting restrictions had been introduced in 1941 due to blackout requirements (City Engineer's file 56/12) and later were extended because of electricity rationing (MED file E62).Quantity (Linear Metres)0.25MediumFileSystem of ArrangementPermit Number orderCollection TypeWellington City Council
