The books are printed with standard columns and headings and contain the following information: number on roll; full names of occupier and owner; description and situation of property; rateable value; total rate; water rate; amount paid; by whom paid; date of payment; and remarks, which may contain notes on changes of owner/occupier, arrears, etc.
At the end there are additions of special rates, a summary and signatures of two Council members. Volumes for 1916/17 to 1918/19 have lists of Outstanding rates pasted inside the back cover. There are also loose papers inserted into several volumes: voting papers for Miramar Borough and the Wellington Harbour Board, and miscellaneous copies of printed electoral lists.
