Archives Identifier00100Date Range1891-1903DescriptionThis series consists of rate books for Melrose Borough Council which, until 1903, covered the areas now known as Roseneath, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Melrose, Lyall Bay, Island Bay, Berhampore, Kingston, Brooklyn, Mitchelltown and Kelburn.

The volumes have standard rate book heading and ruled pages with column entries covering owner, occupier, description and situation of land, its area, and rateable value, amount of the rates (general, special and hospital and charitable aid), arrears, totals, by whom paid, date of payments and remarks. Some volumes have pasted inside the front-end paper, notices - handwritten and newspaper clippings - relating to special meetings re rates and the decisions reached.
