Archives Identifier00138Date Range1840-1996DescriptionThis series is part of the photography collection that was built up by Hilda McDonnell, who worked in the New Zealand Room of the Wellington Public Library. It consists of copy negatives made by Wellington City Council about 1980. Most of the negatives in this series are copies rather than originals. A number are copies from other series or collections held by Wellington City Archives - where relevant these have been listed as copies in the source series. There are a large number of copies of FG Barker photographs. The originals of these are likely to be in the Alexander Turnbull Library, where 767 photographic negatives created by Barker for WCC when he was under contract to them in the 1920's and 1930's (and later deposited by WCC) are held. Prints collected or created by the Library were assigned an accession number, as they were created or collected, with the corresponding copy negative usually having the same number with a WP prefix. The item registration number is the same as the original WP negative number.

Many of the items that the copy negatives in this series were created from are undated. The wide series date is a reflection of this uncertainty and is based on what is known about the people in the photographs, including birth date and their arrival date to New Zealand, where available, but cannot be confirmed at this stage.Quantity (Linear Metres)2.75MediumPhotographSystem of ArrangementNumbering has been retained from original Library Indexes.
