Archives Identifier00268Date Range1963DescriptionThis series consists of microfilm copies of registers and index cards from Wellington cemeteries filmed in Wellington in 1963 and presented to the WCC by the Genealogical Society of Salt Lake City (Church of the Latter Day Saints). One copy was originally held by the Sexton and the others by the Town Clerk's department. It includes two reels of film containing the General Index to Bolton and Karori Cemetery Records in alphabetical order by surname. This information was taken from burial registers, purchase registers and cremation registers and includes surname, first names, register number, date, grave location and in the last column whether Bolton or Sydney Street, whether baby, purchase record, or ashes. If there is no location in this column it refers to a Karori burial. In the latter case there is sometimes a burial year. There are also five reels containing the following registers: Karori Cemetery Burial Registers (1891/1962), copied from the registers still held at Karori Cemetery; Sydney Street or Bolton Street Cemetery, Burial and Cremations 1849/1963, Karori Cremations Register (1909/1963). Information held for Karori Burials includes register number, date of burial, name, age, last residence, rank or occupation, minister officiating, undertaker and location of grave. Information held for Sydney and Bolton Street burials includes register number order [starting from 1 at the beginning of each year], date of burial, name, age and grave location From 1858 additional information is provided: last residence, rank or occupation, minister, denomination, undertaker. Information held for Cremations at Karori Cemetery includes register number, name, sex, age, date and place of death, date of medical referee's certificate, date of cremation, method and date of disposal of ashes [including interment, niche numbers etc], if the ashes were given to relatives, the name of the person to whom given, and date account passed for payment.
