WCC, City Engineer's letter books of Specifications
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00305Date Range1904-1925DescriptionThis series consists of copies of specifications created by the City Engineer for Council initiated works, including the provision of services, equipment and materials to the Council by contractors and suppliers. The series begins in May 1904 and ceases in March 1926, probably because of the start of the City Engineer's subject files - see Series 00009. There are three volumes extant; v. 3 is missing, and v. 4 finishes at page 560. The specifications cover the whole range of works, equipment and supplies required by the Council - for vehicles such as trucks and motor cars, for buildings and structures such as the Library, Fire Stations, Queen Victoria's statue, the Karori Dam and the refuse destructor, for bridges, roads, footpaths and tramways and special earthworks such as tunnels, for water, drainage and plumbing works such as reservoirs, for buildings and slaughtering at the Ngauranga Abattoir, and for plants for reserves. Some refer to plans and plan numbers; a few contain diagrams and drawings. Occasionally an external firm has created the specialist specification, e.g. v.2 p.338- . The specifications are often very detailed and can be up to 38 pages long. Index: very detailed with name and subject entries for works (buildings, streets, etc) and supplies.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.33MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementChronological by date of specificationCollection TypeWellington City Council
