WCC, Scrapbooks of newspaper extracts and advertisements
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00318Date Range1907-1938DescriptionThis series has been created from four miscellaneous volumes of newspaper clippings and advertisements pasted into scrapbooks. The clippings are mainly from Wellington newspapers, the New Zealand Times, The Evening Post and The Dominion. Most are dated but not consistently in all volumes. It appears that they were created by different departments of Council. Only one is identified, the City Valuer's and the scrapbook covers relevant concerns, such as town planning, urban and suburban land values, railways and streets, and the Betterment Bill. It also has attached many loose clippings on a variety of topics. Another contains clippings referring mainly to legal cases and may have been compiled by the City Solicitor. The other two were possibly compiled by the Town Clerk's Department: one has extracts referring to Council meetings and decisions and the other contains advertisements issued by the Town Clerk or the Mayor. Even though single isolated volumes, they give a picture of the operations and concerns of the relevant departments and officers over a period of time. 1.
