Archives Identifier00366Date Range1904?-1928DescriptionThough there are 3 items in this series, there are only two unique volumes, one 'Private Streets' , the other mainly about rights of way; item 2 is typed copies of part of the 'Private streets' volume. The information in the volumes begins in 1864 (Private streets) and 1879 (Rights of way volume),but it is clear that they were compiled much later, probably as a reference source for the Town Clerk, possibly about 1904. The two duplicate copies end about this date, but the main volumes have added entries and annotations, one up to 1928. Other evidence that they were compiled retrospectively is that some sections of the copied extracts are not in strict chronological order. Both original volumes have pages added into the volumes, at the front and/ or at the back. When compared to references in the Council minutes, none of the items are fully complete; that is they do not contain all references to private streets and rights of way discussions and decisions; there is no clear reason for the omissions - maybe just clerical error.
