WCC, City Engineer's Department's City street alignment books
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00369Date RangeNovember 1903-1932DescriptionThis series contains three volumes of survey information on street alignments and one index volume. The three volumes appear to be working documents created by surveyors, reporting to the City Engineer. They may have been created in response to the Public Works Amendment Act 1903 which set out a required width of 66ft for city streets. For example, the notes on v.2 p.45 begin: 'Arthur St (60.6 links wide) This is wrong, the street is only 58.34 wide. Algmt will have to be altered. ....' The plan shows it as 60.6 links. In each volume the left hand page has a street name and mostly further notes about its alignment, etc. The right hand page has a plan of the street and its surrounding streets, with survey measurements, town acre and deposited plan numbers, notes on encroachments, and references to other maps or plans. There are annotations especially in the first book, some in 1919 such as 'Checked 16/6/19 HSO' and others in 1932. Volume 1 has an inserted tissue plan, annotated - 'Copied from L. T. O. Alignment book1 page 190 F. C. Basire (?) 29/1/32'.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.11MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementNone identified; possibly chronological as surveyed.
