Possibly this register refers to smaller and less significant works (under £1000), and was the predecessor series to the multiple number contract registers, 00381. The related entries in the Contract Accounts books, Series 00384, No 5 and 7, provide evidence that this register relates one set of recurring contract registration numbers 1 to 999. The entries record a registration number, name of contractor, brief description of the work, job no., price, wages involved, date of contract, dates when the Town Clerk notified, when work started and finished, details of progress payments, when certified finished, when documents to Chief Clerk, days for compliance, C. E. file no., and a remarks column. As the volume continues, the content of the entries varies. It is probable that the multiple number contract series (beginning about 1956/57) follow on from this volume. At the back of the volume are three pages summarising contract information about: 1. Sealing footpaths and roads as from 31st March 1955 2. Growth clearance as from 31st Mar 1955 3. Steps & handrails as from March 1955 This volume has been retained primarily for its evidential value, as only a few actual contracts have been located, and none retained as archives.
