Archives Identifier00395Date Range1904-1983DescriptionThis is an artificial series of 'historical' documents and ephemera, such as addresses, letters by visiting royalty and governors-general, programmes and other presentation documents. Most have been received as single presentation items but some have been pasted into a volume by an unknown person within Wellington City Council.
The volume of notable addresses and other historical records appears to be one of an original two (the tile on the cover says 'Vol 1'), however no second volume has been located. It is a compilation of signed copies of addresses and letters by visiting royalty and governors-general, or addresses by Wellington City Council to them. It includes some programmes of civic welcomes, and there are also photographs of an illuminated address presented to Queen Elizabeth. It includes items relating to: Governors Ranfurly and Plunket, Governor-Generals Jellicoe, Bledisloe, Galway, Newall, Freyberg, Liverpool, Norrie, Cobham, Fergusson and Porritt; visits by Edward Prince of Wales, Albert, Duke of York , Lord Mayors of London, and foreign politicians; Queen Elizabeth II; a letter to WCC to Harrogate re mace presentation.
