Numbers of employees in the department grew substantially (by 1921 there were 601 employees) and new sub-divisions were created such as the Traffic and Motor Inspector's Office, (to deal with increased motorised transport), and district offices. This series consists of inter-departmental memos, correspondence and reports from officers and overseers in the City Engineer's Department. Some is between the Engineer and officers, some between senior officers, and others between junior and senior officers in one section or district. The correpondence is primarily about city works projects but also includes staff information (such as a list of employees over 65 or District structure) and requests for leave and salary increases.
