WCC, City Engineer's Department's City Record Sheets covering the Foothills motorway
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00473Date Range1968DescriptionThis series consists of maps from the Record Sheet system that date from around 1968. Record Sheets were a set of maps used as an in-house reference tool to manage underground services such as storm water and drainage, support the building permit application process, identify town planning issues, and various other purposes. For a more detailed history of the maps over time refer to Series 00065.
The maps in this set come from a set originally held and used by the Plumbing and Drainage Branch of the City Engineers Department. The set looks to have dated from around 1968, as they do not show the inner-city motorway, and have no more recent annotations. The set held was largely incomplete, and date-wise very similar to Series 00065, which is complete.
Only the sheets that cover the path of the inner-city motorway have been retained and can be compared against Series 00065 to show the change in Wellington before and after the motorway was constructed. The map provides a wide range of information:
- Property sections with lot and deposited plan numbers, boundary dimensions, and street addresses.
- Building footprints, and verandahs where present.
- Street names, and names of reserves, bays, and other land features.
- The location of public storm water and drainage pipes and manholes. Sometimes gives pipe dimensions, and references to stormwater and drainage plans.
- The location of private stormwater and drainage pipes connecting from buildings to public mains.
- Details location of toilets, gully traps, Buchan traps and terminal vents.
Each sheet has been described with the unique plan reference number, as well as the streets (or if marked other features) on that particular sheet. As well as searching by street name to find maps the index map (Series x) can be used to identify a specific plan.Quantity (Linear Metres)1AccrualsNoneMediumPlanSystem of ArrangementEach sheet has a unique grid number based on the Mt Cook Grid System created and used by the Wellington City Council until the late 1980sCollection TypeWellington City Council
