This working group was established in August 1994 'to examine the future of Wellington museum services, and the level and nature of Council support for those services'. This followed the report in June 1994 by Dr Rodney Wilson, 'Into the 21st century'. Copies of this report and the Working Group's final report 'Reinventing Wellington; Wellington's museum services to the year 2020' are included in the papers.

Attached to the files were sets of documents (tranches) which were collations of previous minutes, reports, correspondence, submissions, background information, etc. distributed at meetings of the Working Group. Many of these reports, etc. are duplicates of documents already found on Council files, such as annual reports, budgets, brochures of Council and other organisations, and includes the Wilson report of June 1994 "Into the 21st Century: A review of civic museum services in Wellington". Except for the first four tranches each had a list of documents attached. An amalgamated list of the first four tranches has been compiled. Large numbers of the documents in the tranches have been removed as they are duplicated elsewhere.
