Archives Identifier00512Date Range1931-1932DescriptionThis Commission was set up on 30 October 1931 to enquire into and report upon the Council administration and operations: the general system of administration, various departments, means whereby operations can be improved, the present system of handling money and keeping accounts, charges of trading departments, District Fund, staff, transport operations, purchase of supplies, etc.

The Commissioners appointed were Messrs H E Morton, of Sydney and Melbourne, and H D Vickery, Public Accountant, Wellington. The Commission commenced sitting on 4 January 1932, and sat continuously until 31 March 1932. They heard evidence from the Mayor, Councillors, officers, organisations, and members of the public. They inspected departments and works, and examined records of many departments, some presented as exhibits. Some exhibits were outsize and/or were used temporarily only, and then returned to City Engineer's offices.

The report was presented on 5 September 1932 with a summary of recommendations given by the Commission and approved (or not) by the Committee.
