Archives Identifier00544Date Range1915-1959DescriptionThis series contains seating plans (with attached letters), notes and copies of outward correspondence collated by the Building Branch relating to theatres, halls and cinemas / movie theatres. The plans vary in size and format, from rough hand coloured A5 paper and linen drawings to outsize, printed plans used for box office bookings. Some of the plans have City Engineer stamps, numbers and notations, but these do not always correspond with the handwritten indexes on the original concertina file. A photocopy of the handwritten indexes is in the notes and correspondence folder. Theatres and halls include: Artcraft, Britannia Capitol, Carlton Hall, Crown, De Luxe, The Dainties, Embassy, His Majesty's, Kilbirnie Kinema, Kings, Lyall Bay, Majestic, (Grand) Opera House, Our Theatre Newtown, Paramount, Princess, Quality (Universal) Island Bay, Queens Cuba Street, Regal Karori, Regent, Rivoli, St Francis Hall, St James, St Mary's Hall Karori, Seatoun Hall, Shortts, Star, State, Tivoli, Town Hall Concert Chamber and Gallery, Volgelmorn Hall, Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). There is also a seating plan for the Athletic Park Grand stand. The notes consist of lists of theatres with seating capacity figures, heating and wentilation requirements and copies of 1959 outwards correspondence re applications; the correspondence has files numbers relating to premises, such as 6/- and 45/- .
