WCC, Civic Centre Redevelopment reports and publications
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00638Date Range1972-1989DescriptionThis is an artificial series of reports and publications relating to various proposals for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre between 1970 and 1989. The series provides an overview of the variety of proposals made for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre. The earliest material in the series goes back to the early 1970s when a redevelopment was proposed by R T Kennedy. During this early proposal, plans were made to demolish the current Town Hall and replace it with a modern auditorium (see: 00004:11:1/35/6 for further information). Also in the series is a report written by Warren and Mahoney, designers of the current Michael Fowler Centre, for the proposed retention of the existing Town Hall under Historic Places Trust recommendation. Reports in the series also refer to the redevelopment of the Civic Centre proposed in the 1980s, including a Preliminary Concept Brief referring to an additional auditorium alongside the Michael Fowler Centre and the removal of the old library building, currently the City Gallery. Other reports refer to the Civic Centre redevelopment undertaken in the early 1990s. As this is an artificial series, it does not include all reports and publications relating to proposals for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.11MediumFileCollection TypeWellington City Council
