Quotable Value, Wellington permanent valuation records

Archives Identifier00742Date Range1950s-1999DescriptionOriginally the master record of valuations carried out on individual properties. Arranged by property valuation number, for any property may contain printed valuation slips recording property value, field sheets detailing date of house, construction materials, floor plan layouts, other detail regarding a properties construction.
Valuations were carried out over regular periods or when requested, more recently valuation information was updated in response to building work being carried out.
These records were first created and maintained by the Government Valuation Department. Around 1999 (possibly under the Rating Valuation Act) the valuation function became the responsibility of the Wellington City Council, who contracted this work to Quotable Value to carry out (this is still the case). Around 2002 the system was computerised, meaning no further paper records were added.
Recently decision made that all info required is now in electronic form, paper system no longer required, transferred to Archives Valuation number for a property can be obtained from Cityview.
