Archives IdentifierAB001Date Range1878-1896DescriptionThis series is a set of illuminated addresses presented to George Fisher who was a City Councillor from 1877 to 1881 and the Mayor of Wellington from 1882 to 1885 and 1896.
They were given to the Wellington City Council for safe keeping in 1982 by MacEwans Machinery, a business that had originally been established by the son in law of George Fisher, Mr J B MacEwan who commenced business in 1896 as J B MacEwan & Co Ltd (since 1964 known as MacEwans Machinery Ltd).
The illuminations are referred to in a letter from D H Burson to Mayor, 18 June, 1982 (Page 271 00001-60/1135 Part 5 linked below).
They were originally registered in the Council's Art Collection, but later transferred to the archive collection.
