Wellington Harbour Board Harbour Masters Log of Arrivals and Departures
Descriptive Data
Archives IdentifierAC030Date RangeJanuary 1890-April 1984DescriptionThis Series contains information describing ‘Particulars of Vessels Arriving at and Departing from Wellington’. The following columns are used: Date of Arrival; Name of Vessel; Tonnage Length; Draft on Arrival; Draft on Departure; Last Port; Captain’s Name; Date of Sailing; Where Bound; Remarks.
The Harbour Masters Department was responsible for controlling the movement of ships and craft within the harbour, the details of which are captured in various registers and log books. These are alphabetic registers, listed by Ship’s name. They are then arranged by date. This makes it easy to find out details of a particular ship, including the number of visits made over time.
Recording information such as the Draft, Length and Tonnage of a vessel meant that the appropriate berth could be provided.
These volumes include information about Warships and Naval craft. The Remarks column includes a diverse range of information, such as whether it was the vessel’s first visit, or if there was a new Master, if the vessel was a supply ship, or was carrying ‘benzine’ for example.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.88MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementAlphabetical by ship's nameCollection TypeWellington Museums Trust
