The information is recorded using the following columns: Date Rig (this gives the type of vessel i.e. barque, schooner or steamer etc) Ship’s Name Tons Master Where Bound The first book covers two date ranges. Firstly Jan 1861-Dec 1861, and secondly, July 1865-Dec 1867. In 1853 the Wellington Provincial Council was established and the management of the harbour was passed to them from the General Government. This was in effect until 1876, when all Provincial Councils were disbanded. Until the formation of the Wellington Harbour Board in 1880, the General Government again controlled the harbour.
