Wellington Harbour Board Personnel Cards for Regular Weekly and Casual Staff
Descriptive Data
Archives IdentifierAC055Date Range1937-1970DescriptionThis series contains staff cards for Wellington Harbour Board Regular Weekly and Casual Staff. This series of cards was created in 1937 and ran till 1970. Prior to the 1st October 1937 no record was kept of length of service or rates of pay. When the Harbour Board started to keep track of this on these cards they noted down the original start date of the staff member, so some cards are annotated with information that predates 1937. The cards record: Name, Date they Joined, Birth Date, Position, Department or Staff, Rate of Pay, Date the rate of pay was altered, and general remarks. If a staff member resigned but was then reemployed at a later date, a new card was created for them, so there may be more than one card for an individual. If a staff member shifted to a permanent position, then a new card would be created and could be found in the Personnel Cards for Permanent Staff (Series AC054). Occasionally cards from this series were then attached to the new Permanent Staff card. After 1970 the Harbour Board ceased to keep a separate card sequence for Regular Weekly or Casual Staff, and instead they were kept as part of the series of cards for Permanent Staff. References to files, letter books, minute books and other records may also be found on the cards. Some examples of the more common references are: BCMBII/967 means page 967 of the Board in Committee Minute Book Volume 2 (series AC002) WAMBII/65 means page 65 of the Wharf and Accounts Committee Minute Book Volume 2 (series AC003) WHB 40/293 or WHB 45678 are references to files or correspondence in series AC020 8/5/3 is a reference to a file that formed part of series AC023 (these files may not be held by Wellington City Archives) XLVII/801 is a reference to Secretary's Letter Book Volume 47, page 801 (series AC019) this may also take the form of S47/801 References such as E/234, TM/2345, S/563, A/6456, HM/453 and M/453 related to correspondence and notes in the 'Staff Changes' bound volumes in series AC025 The correspondence that these references point to can be about the specific staff member, or they may be something more general such as a recent pay raise for all Harbour Board staff with that job.Quantity (Linear Metres)1MediumFileSystem of ArrangementAlphabetical by SurnameCollection TypeWellington Museums Trust
