Archives IdentifierAC077Date Range1931-1988DescriptionThis series contains one register that relates to the Floating Dock and covers 1931-1988. The register records information about the ships that used the dock. Each entry was consecutively numbered (these are the same numbers used in series AC092). Data about each ship was recorded including how long it used the dock for, the owner and the plan number it relates to (see series AC093 for the plans). There is no index and the only access point is by date, or entry number. The register was created by the Chief Engineer’s Department of the Wellington Harbour Board who were responsible for operating the Jubilee Floating Dock, which had been purchased in 1930 and arrived in Wellington in 1932. It was known as the ‘Jubilee’ Floating Dock because the Harbour Board had ordered it on their 50th anniversary. It was also frequently just referred to as “the Floating Dock”. While the Board owned and operated the Dock, they did not carry out the cleaning, painting or repairing of vessels. The owner of the vessel had to make their own arrangements with the engineering and ship repair companies in Wellington. The Harbour Board sold the Floating Dock in 1988.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.25MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementChronologicallyCollection TypeWellington Museums Trust
