They are either remnants of a larger set that has been lost or destroyed or there was only ever one item. They have been brought together in one series for convenience. There are five items in this series: 1. Docking Log No 6 (1939) – records each ship that used the dock, the date and time of use, equipment used and the staff involved (last names only). This particular volume is more in-depth than the equivalent volume in series AC092 2. Instructions for Maintenance and Use of Dock (1932-1947) – records details on the equipment available for use on the Floating Dock staff and maintenance information relating to the equipment and the dock. 3. Dock Soundings (1932-1937) – records soundings taken of the dock before and after its use 4. Dock Book (1932-1966) – records details of each ship and position of the various blocks laid down to support the ship while it was in the dock 5. Floating Dock diary (1931-1959) – records the time a ship entered or left the dock and its dimensions These records were created by the Chief Engineer’s Department of the Wellington Harbour Board who were responsible for operating the Jubilee Floating Dock, which had been purchased in 1930 and arrived in Wellington in 1932. It was known as the ‘Jubilee’ Floating Dock because the Harbour Board had ordered it on their 50th anniversary. It was also frequently just referred to as “the Floating Dock”. While the Board owned and operated the Dock, they did not carry out the cleaning, painting or repairing of vessels. The owner of the vessel had to make their own arrangements with the engineering and ship repair companies in Wellington.
