Archives IdentifierAF009Date Range1875-1917DescriptionEngineers were employed on company ships from 1875 onwards; they were graded from Chief Engineers in some cases down to 7th or 8th Engineer. These registers use the same printed page format as those for masters and officers (Series AF001). When fully entered, they record name, place and date of birth, date joined company, rank on joining, insurance held, certificates and gradings held, previous service, appointments and removals with names and dates of ships and positions, and in later registers, marital status. The entries are cumulative over the registers: the entries for those still employed by the company when a new register is begun are rewritten into the new register. Some information is summarised as the entries are rewritten.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.61MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementPossibly in seniority order; indexes at front of volumes; ships list at back of first volumeCollection TypeWellington Museums Trust
