There is a small sequence of early closed files dated 1919-1925, and the file classification numbers of these were reused. Most of files date between the 1930s to the 1960s. The series closes in the early 1970s, coinciding with the takeover of the Company by TNT Australia. The files cover all aspects of the company's management, particularly policy and management issues, and sensitive and confidential correspondence with the General Manager and with the P & O Chairman. Some items not found in the original handwritten or typed file lists have been added to this series as they are annotated on the file cover with Managing Director's stamps or headings.
