A prospectus was issued setting out its objects, which included promoting and studying the history of Wellington, collecting and preserving records etc to achieve this, compiling a register of early residents of Wellington, recording the experiences of early settlers and instituting social gatherings to bring together early settlers and their descendents.
Membership of the Association was by way of a small yearly subscription, or life membership for a larger donation. Its first executive officers were President, Hon J E Jenkinson, and vice-presidents F P Wilson, G London and L Stowe. Jenkinson was followed by Sir George Hunter, MP (1922-?), then Sir Douglas McLean.
The first gathering of early settlers was held on Dominion Day September 23, 1912.
A journal was published from 1913 until 1923, with a gap of 8 years between 1914 and 1922.External LinksJournal of the Society
