TypeAgencyDate Range4 April 2003-30 June 2014DescriptionOn 4 April 2003, Lambton Harbour Management Ltd changed its name to Wellington Waterfront Limited (WWL). WWL is a Council Controlled Organisation owned by the Wellington City Council. WWL has primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of the waterfront; cleaning, security and general maintenance. In addition to this, it also provides a range of other services on behalf of the City Council in delivering the Wellington Waterfront Development Project.
In summary these are:
- management and development of public space and public amenities
- promotion of the restoration of heritage buildings
- promotion of commercial developments
- property and facilities management
- staging of public festivals, events, conferences and promotions, including management of the Queens Wharf Events Centre
- co-ordination and consultation with relevant public agencies including the Waterfront Development Subcommittee and the Waterfront Technical Advisory Group Harbour
- providing information about Wellington's waterfront and its development to the public, with the aim of fostering public interest, confidence, enthusiasm and enjoyment of the waterfront. The Chair of Wellington Waterfront in 2003 was Fran Wilde and in December 2005 Michael Cashin was appointed to the new role of Deputy Chair.
In December 2013, the Council resolved to bring management of the Waterfront Project (i.e. the role of the "Waterfront Implementation Agency") in-house from 1 July 2014 and WWL's staff were transferred to the Council.
