TypeAgencyDate Range1993-1994DescriptionThe Tawa Poll Information Group consisted of a number of Tawa residents concerned at the growing discontent at the way Tawa was amalgamated with Wellington in 1989 and at the way in which Tawa was being administered.
It was formed in 1993 and stated that it was non-political and that its aim was "to see Tawa strengthen its identity, restore pride and promote growth". It petitioned residents at the end of 1993/beginning of 1994 for the creation of a separate Tawa District. Its work culminated in the presentation of a document prepared as a response to the Local Government Commission, titled "Propose for a Tawa District".
Key members of the Group were Ross Denton, Mike Frohlich, Bing Lucas and John Cook. A number of these same individuals were also involved in earlier action against the forced amalgamation with Wellington in 1989. (This campaign is represented in the earlier file.)
