The Thorndon Society then operated as a de facto residents association over the next 30 or so years, but it had more defined objectives than a residents association.

The Thorndon Residents Association (TRA) was revived in 2008 as an incorporated society that was established by a group of concerned citizens. They saw the need for an active and effective body to communicate and help Thorndon residents to express their collective views to local authorities and similar community entities. The TRA registered as a charity in 2009.
