Up to 1999 the Centre was known as the Wellington Festival and Convention Centre. The Centre operates as a business unit within the Positively Wellington Tourism team and under the Council Controlled Organisations Directorate. Previously it was controlled by a variety of Council departments, such as Cutlure & Recreaton (1990/1991, Economic Commissioning (1994-1996), Strategy (1999-2001) Community Services (2001). The venues are used for meetings, conferences, conventions, concerts and arts performances, balls and banquets, displays and exhibitions, sports events, trade shows, weddings, etc. The Convention Centre has a website that includes detailed information on all locations, a monthly calendar of events, bookings procedures, etc.
