Since about 1999 it has been known as the Wellington Convention Centre. The Centre was controlled by a variety of Council departments, such as Cutlure & Recreation (1990/1991), Economic Commissioning (1994-1996), and Strategy (1999-2001). Wellington Festival & Convention Centre venues were used for meetings, conferences, conventions, concerts and arts performances, balls and banquets, displays and exhibitions, sports events, trade shows, weddings, etc.
