TypeAgencyDate Range1967-DescriptionThe Auxiliary Corps was set up in 1967 under Ken Boyden, Traffic Superintendent, under the authority of the Civil Defence Act. Though its members were volunteers, not Council employees, they were given training, did point duty and worked at concerts, VIP visits, etc.. THis included working during the Wellington protest against Springbok tour in 1981 When the Council closed the Traffic Department in 1971, the Corps came officially under the Ministry of Transport but continued to work with Wellington Civil Defence. The official warrant of appointment from the Road Transport Division of the Ministry of Transport refers to Wishart as a Civil Defence Traffic Officer. (see also historical notes in folders)
