TypeAgencyDate Range1891-1920DescriptionKarori Borough Council was incorporated under the Municipal Corporations Act 1886, with six Councillors and a Mayor elected by borough ratepayers.
Karori had previously been served by the Karori-Makara Road Board. When the Borough was incorporated it included Creswick (Northland), Kelburn and part of Tinakori Road. Creswick amalgamated with Wellington City in 1908, changing its name to Northland. Karori amalgamated with Wellington City in 1920.
Significant officers included:
Town Clerk 1891- 1894 R Caldwell
Town Clerk May Sept 1894-1920 W F England
Borough Engineer May 1906- Nov 1907 J E Thomson - previously at WCC Tramways Power Station
Borough Engineer Jan 1908-Mar 1920 G A Brigham
On amalgamation, most records of the Borough were transferred to the Wellington City Council. Some were added to the City's reord systems and others remained separate for a while. For example Karori remained a separate building district, using Karori Borough's numbering system, until 1922. The City Council also created some new records as findings aids to help them access the Karori Borough records, for example the Karori Borough minute book street extracts volume held in Series 00368.
