TypeAgencyDate Range1912-DescriptionJames S Roberts was appointed City Engineer on 16 April 1964, on the retirement of G I B Thomas. Prior to this he was Assistant City Engineer (from April 1963) and before that general Divisional Engineer. He joined the Council first in 1929 in the Town Clerk's Department and transferred in 1930 to the City Engineer's as an engineering cadet. Later he qualified as a structural engineer. He spent time as as an engineer in Napier (1939-) and in Invercargil (1941-). From 1943 to 1946 he was seconded to a British Army engineering unit after which he returned to Invercargill. In 1950 he rejoined the Wellington City Council and was appointed division engineer in 1952. In September/ October 1965 he took an overseas study and conference trip to the USA, Britain and Europe. Qualifications: AMICE, MNZIE, AMIS Struc E, AMITE (USA), and AFNIM.
