He began his photographic career in Queensland producing postcard views, but was shooting panoramas around Sydney by 1919. He opened his Wellington business in 1923 at 80 Manners Street and operated there until 1936, but maintained a studio in Sydney. He travelled extensively photographing homesteads, public events, royal visits, groups, and urban and rural scenery. From about 1937-1944 he worked in partnership with James Thompson in Rotorua.
