Date Range1911-unknownDescriptionThe role of Traffic Manager was created in 1911 in response to the increasing and unsustainable workload on the Traffic Superintendent. The Superintendent role was responsible for both construction and maintenance, and operation, of the tramways. There was concern however that the work involved had increased so significantly since the tramway started operating that it was too much for a single role to be able to focus on.
The result was the creation of the Traffic Manager role, which was responsible for
- overseeing the tram and bus services
- employing Motormen, Conductors and Bus drivers and
- managed the Traffic Office "inspectorial staff" who undertook supervision of services such as driver training, ticket checking, ticket office staff, compilation of rosters, timekeeping, fare and route schedule.
