Chris Jones
Chris Jones is a Wellington-based musician.
Raised in Palmerston North, Jones studied graphic design in Whanganui and moved to Wellington in 1995.
In December 1998 Jones released the single A Wellington Christmas which was met with enthusiasm by Wellington radio stations, and its nationwide companion A New Zealand Christmas played widely throughout New Zealand, being included on NZ On Air’s Hit Disc the following year.
In February 1999 Jones’ debut album The Human Dynamo was released, followed by a commission from Wellington Mayor Mark Blumsky to write and record a song to coincide with Wellington's Millennium celebrations. Wellington (The Best Time Of Your Life) was launched at a Mayoral reception in October 1999, and performed by Jones at the opening of Westpac Stadium in January 2000.
Touring regularly, Jones was selected as support act for international artists Boney M, The Searchers and Leo Sayer, but from 2004 shifted his focus towards working with Wellington duo Pearl as music director, co-writer, producer and tour manager. Pearl’s 2006 album No Ordinary Day sparked a string of festival and concert performances with kiwi artists including The Feelers, Hollie Smith and Th’ Dudes and with international touring acts including Elton John, Jimmy Barnes and Eric Clapton.
Pearl released six singles from the album including the Jones-penned All I Need and Wake Up Next To You, and Jones’ song Stronger Than Love featured in Wellington director Chaz Harris’ short film The Shoebox.
In 2012 A New Zealand Christmas was included on the compilation album Pohutukawas & Pavlova (60 Years of Kiwi Christmas Songs).
Chris Jones continues to perform solo, duo and band shows throughout New Zealand. He mentors up and coming artists and continues to write and record new music.
