This collection was donated by the Nicholls family, and includes some items compiled after his death.

Harry Edgar Nicholls was appointed as a Clerk at Queens Wharf for the Wellington City Corporation in 1876. In 1885 he was appointed as an Accountant and Cashier for the Wellington Harbour Board and in 1908 was appointed as an Acting Secretary and Chief Executive Officer. In 1924 he retired from the Wellington Harbour Board.
