Cambridge Terrace appears on the 1840 plan by W M Smith, Surveyor General: Plan of the town of Wellington.
Named after the Duke of Cambridge, uncle of Queen Victoria.
On the original survey plan Cambridge Terrace and Kent Terrace formed either side of a proposed canal that led to where the Basin Reserve is. This proposed canal area was declared as the Canal Reserve.
There was street widening that happened in the 1920s where Part of the Canal Reserve land was declared to be Street.
