Blair Street runs between Wakefield Street and Courtenay Place.
It was formed as one of the new streets following the Grainger Street block redevelopment.
The street was named after John Rutherford Blair, Mayor of Wellington from 1898-1899. Prior to being a mayor, Blair ran a publishing firm, Lyon and Blair, the forerunner to Whitcombe and Tombs. He was deeply involved in the education system and was chairman for The Wellington Education Board, The Technical College Board and The Wellington College Board of Governors.
