Upper Lewisville Terrace is a Private Road which comes off Lewisville Terrace. Although thought by a few to be a public road, its current status remains as private.
It is most likely named after David Lewis, an early settler, who arrived in Wellington on the Oriental, January 1840. David Lewis entered the employ of the New Zealand Land Company as a clerk and was for many years its Land Commissioner of New Zealand Land Claims.
In 1874 a special Bill, the David Lewis Retiring Allowance, was passed. This allowed David Lewis the same retirement fund as was allowed to other Civil servants under the Civil Service Acts but excluded his role. David Lewis formerly quit his role and retired in 1880.
In 1881 he became one of the trustees for the management of the Wellington Cemetery.
He resided in Lewisville Terrace, and in the year 1892 shifted to Cambridge Terrace. He dies in 1892 and left a small strip of land, Part Town Acres 625 and 626, to the Council.
