Named after C E W Willeston, JP, who was a Wellington City Councillor from 1888-1901.
It runs from Jervois Quay through to Willis Street, at the intersection of Willis Street and Lambton Quay.
The part of the road between Willis Street and Victoria Street was originally called Harbour Street and ran through to the foreshore. Following the completion of the Te Aro reclamation, the road was extended, and the full length named Willeston Street.
