Howard Alexander Hounsell was born in Blenheim and served as a seaman in the deck and engine departments of a number of vessels in New Zealand, including the Aramoana, Aranui and Katea, as well as both the Wahine I and the Wahine II.
He was onboard the TSS Wahine I when it ran aground in Arafura Bay en route to Korea.
He perished in 1968 when the TEV Wahine II ran aground at the entrance of Wellington Harbour.
