From 1908-1985 the organisation was known as the Cercle Littéraire Française de Wellington. In 1985 this became the Alliance Française, Wellington.

These records were organised by an archivist and digitised by New Zealand Micrographics in 2008, as part of the organisation's centenary. This also marks the point where the majority of the organisation's records moved to being born digital.
