Descriptive Data
Archives IdentifierOS007Date Range1923-2000DescriptionWhen Onslow Borough Council joined the Wellington City Council on 31 March 1919, the Onslow Progressive Association was formed to assist Mr J M Dale (the then Mayor of Onslow) who joined the City Council as the Onslow representative. While the Onslow Progressive Association worked well, there was a wider discussion to disband the Association and form separate Associations for Ngaio and Khandallah. As a result, a small committee was formed on 6th June 1922 to prepare a constitution and rules for the Ngaio Progressive Association.
The Association was officially established on 13th June 1922 at a public meeting, where the first committee members were elected, comprising:
President - Mr Lynneberg
Vice President - Mr G McArthur
Treasurer - Mr J Petit
Secretary - Mr W S Radcliffe
Committee Members - Hampton, Norris, E Hicks, Macleod, and Glenday.
In 2012 the Association voted to change its name to the Ngaio Crofton Downs Residents Association. This was done to better reflect the purpose of the Association, which was to promote improvement, and advocate for communities from both Ngaio and Crofton Downs.
This collection has been arranged into series based on the structure created by the donor. The series contains minutes, reports, inwards/outwards correspondence. These records cover the period from 1962-2000. The earliest record in the series is the summary drafted and signed by the first Secretary, Mr W S Radcliffe, on 5th June 1923. This draft provides a history of the establishment of the Association. Most of the records were created by the Association, but there are also newspaper clippings and ephemera collected by the Association's committee members and members of Onslow Historical Society (OHS) over the period of time.
There is a large gap in minutes and correspondences between 1923-1962. MediumVolumeSystem of ArrangementThere was no set order or instructions on how they were created and managed when these records were received at the Archives. The records were held in three boxes labelled by the organisation's name, Ngaio Progressive Association (NPA). The records are arranged in chronological order and listed at the folder level. Each folder is numbered in numerical sequence. External LinksNgaio Crofton Downs Residents AssociationCollection TypeOnslow Historical Society
