Archives IdentifierOS009Date Range1938-1984DescriptionThe Khandallah Progressive Association (KPA) was officially established on 13th June 1922 to advocate for and promote the interests of residents. Khandallah and Ngaio were amalgamated under the Onslow Progressive Association on 31 March 1919 when the Onslow Borough Council joined the Wellington City Council. It was decided at the annual meeting of the Onslow Progressive Association held in 1922 that two separate associations for Khandallah and Ngaio were needed to serve the interests of these two communities.
This is a collection of records from the Khandallah Progressive Association that start in 1938 through 1984. It consists mainly of meeting minutes; annual reports; correspondence between the Wellington City Council and Association members regarding topics like maintenance of footpaths, lights, rubbish drive routes, parks; and newspaper clippings. The records were transferred to Wellington City Archives from the Onslow Historical Society.
There are also two folders which include records from the Federation of the Wellington Progressive Association, mainly minutes and reports from 1955-1963 and 1979-1984.
This collection illustrates the history of the Association and its contribution towards advocating for the local community in the northern suburbs.MediumFileSystem of ArrangementThere was no information on how these records were originally created and managed when these records were received at Archives. These records were originally stored in three boxes. Folders were labelled according to their subject group like valuations, sewage etc. and were held together with metal split paper fastener pins. Loose records like newspaper clippings were placed into archival folders by Onslow Historical Society.
Records have been arranged and grouped into subject groups: correspondence, reports and minutes, publications, and ephemera. They have been arranged in chronological order based on those groupings and listed at a folder level.
