Norah Parr was a daughter of historian Robert Gilkison, whose book Early Days in Central Otago was first published in 1930. Mrs Parr became interested in Captain Daniell's land investments, his residence in Ngaio and his part in early colonial period. She had twice lived on land previously owned by him. She was also a foundation member of Onslow Historical Society and lived in Ngaio for several years. She was also a member of Petone Historical Society. The collection of hand traced maps in the research was a result of her particular interest in early cartography [OS001-Vol 8 No 2, OS001-Vol 2 No 3]. She was also a member of New Zealand History Group of the Federation of University Women and its convenor in 1971-1972.
Most of the items in this collection are handwritten research notes and traced maps that Norah created from her visit to Archives and National Library in Wellington. These items were grouped into folders based on the content of the research and labelled accordingly by Onslow archivist.
